Engagement

People turn up
because it fits.

Every platform has a completion figure. Ours is high because the thing we ask for is small, it arrives at the hour that person is actually free, and there is something to do the moment it lands. Nobody sustains a habit they have to remember to have.

A day, and we mean it

1,284

Longest streak on record, in days

Averages across client programmes, except the last, which is one person. Three and a half years of consecutive days, still going. The figure worth arguing about is the third: every design decision in the product defends that length, because training that needs an hour is training that gets deferred.

Nobody disengages on purpose

People do not skip training because they have decided it does not matter. They skip it because it turned up at the wrong moment, asked for more time than they had, and gave them nothing to do when they got there.

It arrives at 9am for everyone

Which is exactly when a shift starts, a ward handover happens and a showroom opens. The one hour of the day nobody on the floor is free.

It asks you to go somewhere

A link, a login, a tab. Every step between the reminder and the learning is a place to lose somebody, and most of them are lost at the first.

There is nothing to do when you get there

A module to read is not an activity. Reading feels like progress and produces almost none, which is why completion and retention pull apart.

Smart reminders

It learns the hour, one person at a time

Not a send window you configure for the whole company. Every learner has their own, worked out from when they answer rather than when you sent it.

When Priya actually answers

Last 30 days

Sending at 07:50 Weekdays only. She opened three of the last thirty at 19:00, so evenings stopped.

Answered, not opened

An open says a notification made it through. Only an answer says the moment was right. The engine weights the second and ignores the first.

It moves when they move

Shift patterns rotate, people change roles, term time ends. The window follows without anybody filing a request, and it holds a different one for weekends where the pattern warrants it.

Local to them, quiet at night

Timezone comes from the learner, not the account. Quiet hours are absolute: if the best hour is 6am, it waits for the one your policy allows.

It backs off

Three ignored in a row and the frequency drops rather than doubling. A reminder people have learned to dismiss is worse than none, because it teaches them to dismiss the next one too.

On the app

Push runs on the same brain

The phone gets the same learned hour as the email, not a separate schedule somebody has to keep in step. If a learner answers on the app most mornings and by email at lunch, the engine knows which channel earns which moment and sends one, not both.

  • One a day, and never two channels for the same drill.
  • Answerable from the notification, without opening the app.
  • Streak and mastery update wherever it was answered.
  • Off is a setting the learner owns, not a request to an administrator.

Active recall, everywhere

The notification is the question

This is the part that separates a reminder from a habit. Wherever the nudge lands, the retrieval happens there too, in the same message, before anybody has decided whether they have time.

Recall, not reading

Every touchpoint asks rather than tells. Pulling an answer out of your own head is what builds the memory. Reading one strengthens nothing, however well written it is.

Answered in Slack and Teams

The whole drill happens inside the message. No link out, no context switch, no excuse. Two taps and the day is done.

Answered from the lock screen

A push carries the question and its options. The answer is registered before the phone is unlocked.

Answered from the email

For the people whose work does not run through a chat tool, the options are in the email itself, one click each.

🔥 34 day streak Answered in 41 seconds, without leaving the channel.

It is worth being precise about why this matters. A reminder that sends someone somewhere converts at the rate of the weakest step in the chain. A reminder that is the activity has no chain. That is most of the difference between a platform people use in week one and one they are still using in week thirty.

Engagement is not the same as pressure

There is a version of this that works by making people feel bad, and it does work, for about a month. We do not build it. Missing a day costs nothing that cannot be earned back, mastery only ever rises through demonstrated understanding, and nothing a learner fails to do is reported as a failing. The nudges stop when somebody says stop.

See it against your own rota

A demo covers what the reminders would look like for your shift patterns, your channels and the people you are worried about losing.
